Moussaoui judge rules against public disclosure of Flight 93 tapes
April 10th, 2006
ALEXANDRIA, Va. (AP) - The judge in Zacarias Moussaoui’strial has decided that only those in the courtroom will hear the 9/11 cockpit recording of United Airlines Flight 93 — the plane that crashed in a Pennsylvania field.
Judge Leonie Brinkema made her decision the same day she warned prosecutors they’re on “shaky ground” for presenting such emotional witness testimony about 9/11 events.
Brinkema accepted a promise for briefer witness statements after telling government lawyers that too much “prejudicial” emotion could provoke an appeal.
Prosecutors today played 911 tapes made by two victims trapped in the twin towers. Witnesses also told about the agonies of explaining to children that their parents wouldn’t be coming home.
